WELCOME TO THE WRITE NEWS
THIS MONTH WE'RE FEATURING ALEXANDRIA HOUSE
How long have you been writing, or when did you start?
I’ve been a verbal storyteller and poet for as long as I can remember, but my first romance novel, Higher Love, was released in late 2016. I wrote it during NaNoWriMo that same year.
What is your writing process like? Are you more of a plotter or a pantser?
I am a total pantser, which serves to work against me sometimes, lol. Writing can be rocky when you know the beginning and end but have no idea of the twists and turns the story will take during that journey, but this method seems to work best for me. And my readers aren’t complaining.
What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
Nothing special other than a glass of water and a clock to remind me how long I’ve been at it so that I can take breaks. I do like to have some white noise playing in the background or some music, but that’s not a necessity. However, there was a time when I wrote best with Judge Judy or Law and Order SVU playing on my TV, lol.
Tell us about your latest book.
Touch me is my second Audible Original and also the second book in my Romey University series. It follows the love story of Dr. Sharla London, a professor at Romey U, and Jovani Higgs, a photographer and the university’s artist in residence. The overall themes of their story are the importance of family, the power of love, and the necessity of self-preservation. It is currently available in Kindle, paperback, and audio formats.
What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?
All of it! I partially wrote it during this pandemic and through the sickness of a loved one, so it was overall a difficult experience, but I am so proud of the final product!
What part of the book was the most fun to write?
I always enjoy including cameos of characters from previous novels/series, and there are some kids in the book that have some laugh-out-loud moments, so that was definitely fun to write.
I am currently writing the first book in my upcoming St. Louis Cyclones basketball series, Flagrant. It’s working for me, but I hope my readers enjoy it!
